No Red Line Bus Diversion This Weekend
With snow in the forecast, the MBTA has decided to postpone a planned bus diversion between Harvard and Alewife stations.
A Red Line closure originally planned for Feb. 23 and 24 will not be taking place, according to the MBTA's Twitter account, @mbtaGM.
As part of the planned closure, a bus diversion would have been in effect between Harvard and Alewife stations to allow crews to work in the tunnel that connects those stations.
Due to the weather forecast, which is predicting snow, the diversion has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date, the Tweet said.
So, expect normal train service on the Red Line this weekend.
Eventually, bus diversions will allow workers to perform track, power and signal work as part of the Red Line Floating Slab Project—part of a nearly $35 million series of improvements to the tunnel, which opened in 1985 and is in need of substantial repairs.
Repair work, with occasional bus diversions, are expected to be conducted into 2016.
