'No Money' Candidate to Hold Rally Under McGrath Highway

The rally will include guest speakers who will talk about plans for the highway.

Mike Connolly, a Cambridge resident who is running as an independent for state representative in East Somerville and East Cambridge (the seat is currently held by Timothy Toomey), is planning to hold a campaign rally under the McGrath Highway Saturday.

Connolly has received attention for his campaign, which is not accepting monetary contributions. On his website, visitors can pledge $0.00 to his effort.

The rally will happen at 10:00 a.m. before campaign volunteers canvass throughout East Somerville, according to a Facebook invitation and an email from Connolly.

It will take place under the McCarthy Overpass—across from the Somerville Target—and will last about half an hour.

According to the Facebook invitation: "We'll have a brief rally and organizational meeting — and we'll also hear from some guest speakers who will talk about the effort to remove the McCarthy Overpass and convert the McGrath Highway into a livable city street (complete with bike-lanes and beautiful greenspace)."
