Man Seriously Injured in Somerville Accident on I-93 North

A 25-year-old may have been outside his disabled car when he was struck by a Ford Explorer near Exit 29, according to Massachusetts State Police.

A Stoneham man suffered serious injuries during a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 nortbound in the area of Exit 29 in Somerville early Tuesday morning, according to a press statement issued by Massachusetts State Police.

"Initial investigation indicates that the victim, a 25-year-old male from Stoneham may have been outside of his disabled 2002 Hyundai Elantra when he was struck by a 42-year-old male from Sudbury driving a 2010 Ford Explorer," the statement reads.

The investigation is being handled by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highways Division and the Somerville Fire Department are also on scene, according to State Police.

At 4:11 a.m., the right and left travel lanes were closed and anticipated to be opened within the hour, according to State Police.

The vicitm was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. His name has not been released by State Police and no additional details are currently available.

State Police are advising drivers to be cautious on the roadways following the snowfall overnight.

"While many of the primary and secondary roadways have been or are currently being treated, paved surfaces that might appear to be wet, may in fact contain black ice," wrote State Police in a secnd press statement. "Drivers should reduce their speeds in less than ideal conditions, allow for extra total travel time, leave extra distance for stopping and always remember to buckle up."
