Man Kicks Wheelchair-Bound Nun, Says Police Report

The man allegedly told the officers who arrested him, "If I wasn't handcuffed, and I had a gun, I would [expletive] shoot both of you."

A Cambridge man was caught "giving chase to one of the nuns" at Somerville's Little Sisters of the Poor, according to a Somerville Police report. He then allegedly kicked the nun.

Police responded to the Catholic senior housing facility at 190 Highland Ave. at about 4:20 p.m. on Oct. 17, according to the report.

When officers got there, the main entrance was locked. As they waited for someone to buzz them in, the officers saw Shawn Bryon, 45, of Albany Street in Cambridge, chasing the wheelchair-bound nun, who was attempting to flee, the report says. When the nun reached the main entrance, officers saw Bryon kick her in the leg and wheelchair, accord to the report.

One officer began tugging on the door to get into the building, and Bryon fled down the hallway, the report says.

The nun buzzed the officers into the building, but she nearly fell out of her wheelchair doing so because she had trouble reaching the button, according to the report. She said Bryon was creating a commotion, and she asked officers to remove him, the report says.

When officers escorted Bryon off the property, he began shouting obscenities and racial epithets, according to the report.

He allegedly said, "Do you have all your teeth because I am going to knock them out" and also, "If I wasn't handcuffed, and I had a gun, I would [expletive] shoot both of you."

Bryon was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and threating to commit crime.
