Man Accused of Choking Other Man

An argument led to one man choking another, according to a police report.

A man from Magnolia, a village in Gloucester, allegedly choked another man, according to a police report.

The incident happened Jan. 16 at about 6:50 p.m. at 60 Washington St., the report says.

According to the alleged choking victim's account, he and his alleged attacker, Richard Mahoney, 38, got into a heated argument and Mahoney pushed him and then choked him, the police report says.

After a few seconds, according to the victim's account in the police report, Mahoney let the victim go but then began choking the victim a second time, saying, "I could snap your neck right now."

Mahoney then left the scene and got into his Ford pickup truck, the report says.

Police found Mahoney in his truck on New Washington Street, and when police approached he said, "Go ahead, arrest me. I know why that is why you are here," according to the report.

Police arrested Mahoney and charged him with assault and battery and attempted murder.

Information from incident reports provided by the Somerville Police Department do not indicate a conviction.
