Frank Senesi, Retiring Veterans Affairs Director, Gets Commendation
In retirement, Senesi plans to take it easy and visit family.
Frank Senesi, who retired as the city's director of veterans affairs at the end of December after serving in the position for eight years, received a commendation from the Board of Aldermen and mayor's office Thursday.
Before heading the city's veterans affairs office, Senesi worked as a manager for the Massachusetts Highway Department. He also served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam and, among other things, received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, speaking Thursday, said Senesi spent his whole life serving the country and the Somerville community. "He's going to be sorely missed," the mayor said.
In retirement, Senesi plans to spend time with family and possibly do some traveling, the former director said.
Also on Thursday, Senesi received a distinguished service award from the Somerville Allied Veterans Council.
The city has not yet appointed a new director of veterans services.
