As part of a nationwide effort to cut U.S. Postal Service costs, the Union Square Post Office may close. On Thursday, a public meeting to discuss the possible closure will be held at noon at Police Headquarters. A smaller service center would open elsewhere in the square and new uses for the building, which the City hopes to buy, could bring new life (and parking) to the square. Patch will keep you updated.

Craft vendors and performers can start signing up now to take part in this hugely popular midsummer arts festival. This year’s fest takes place July 15 and 16 and the theme is Red. “The hue is many things: hot, passionate and life sustaining—and we think, an apt theme for a hot summer festival,” states the Somerville Arts Council’s announcement. Craft vendor applications are due March 28. Artist applications are due April 1. Community vendor applications are coming soon. More info here.

Closings

Black & Blues clothing boutique of Davis Square e-mailed customers last week that it will close by the end of the month, according to a post on DavisSquareLiveJournal. Bob Slate Stationer in Porter Square will also be closing in March if a last minute buyer is not found, reports CambridgeDay.com. Both will be missed.
