Five Things: Second Chances Clothing and Coin Drive, Local Culture Grants
Plus, the Boston Comedy Festival is still in town, and a BIG BAD show coming up in October.
1) Second Chances Clothing and Coin Drive
Bring your used cloths, shoes, accessories, and all those coins you have lying around, to the Second Chances Clothing and Coin Drive, held at the Somerville Community Growing Center starting at 5 p.m. The donations will help hundreds of local people in local shelters and services programs.
2) Apply for a Local Cultural Council grant
Each year, the Somerville Arts Council awards Local Cultural Council grants to Somerville artists, and the deadline to apply is Oct. 15. There are informational sessions planned for Sept. 20 (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the West Branch Public Library) and Sept. 24 ( 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Cross Street Senior Center). Learn more hear.
3) Boston Comedy Festival
The Boston Comedy Festival is in full swing. Among the acts is the Lost Brothers and Company at The Burren.
4) "The BIG BAD"
"The BIG BAD" show a the Nave Gallery "explores the true representations of the foes that wreck our homes, our health, our families, our childhoods," a reference to things like "the repo man, banks, politicians, the ex, the evil step-parent, the monster in the closet, [and] the tick-tock of a bad heart," according to the event listing. The show takes place in October and there's an opening reception Oct. 6. Mark your calendar.
5) Weather and Red Sox
Expect rain and thunderstorms today, with highs around 80. It will clear a bit toward the end of the day. The Red Sox play Tampa Bay tonight at 7:10 p.m.
