1) Elementary schools open houses
Somerville's elementary schools are holding open houses today, Thursday and Friday. Drop by a school from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to check it out. In addition, the Parent Information Center is hosting coffee hours from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on these three days, allowing parents and guardians the opportunity to meet, discuss schools and get some caffeine.

2) Congratulations to Somerville college students
In college news, according to information released by their respective schools, Somervillians Begeline Romeus, Albert Paitoo and Kadeem Gayle received academic honors at American International College in Springfield; Jackson Renshaw received a bachelor's degree in ecological agriculture from University of Vermont; Michael Williams made the dean's list at Assumption College in Worcester; and Samantha Dudley made the dean's list at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. Congratulations.

3) Domestic violence employment rights bill
On Beacon Hill, Somerville state Sen. Patricia Jehlen supported a bill that protects employment rights for victims of domestic violence, according to an announcemnt from Jehlen's office. The bill allows people who work at large companies 15 days of paid or unpaid leave if they or a family member is a victim of domestic violence. The time off gives employees time to receive medical attention, counseling, protection orders, housing and legal assistance, among other things. "Too many victims of domestic abuse don't have the opportunity to get the help they need and improve their situations without fear of being fired," said Jehlen in a statement.

4) Artists inspired by film
As part of its "Somerville Salon Series," the Somerville Arts Council is hosting a discussion tonight about artists who have been inspired by film. The discussion takes place at 7 p.m. at the Center for Arts at the Armory.

5) Weather
Today will be sunny, with highs around 37.
