Five Things: Meeting Mike Aviles, Story Time for Kids

1) Somerville kid meets Red Sox Mike Aviles
Gio, 8, of Somerville, met Red Sox shortstop Mike Aviles recently, according to an announcement sent on behalf of Staples. Aviles took local kids from the Middlesex County Boys & Girls Club on a back-to-school shopping spree at Staples in Boston. Staples donated hundreds of bags of school supplies to the club, the announcement says.

2) Somerville summer story time in the park
As part of Raising a Reader, kids can listened to "Book Fiesta," by Pat Moore, read aloud. The read-aloud takes place at 10 a.m. at Albion Playground.

3) Outside movie: Old Yeller
As part of SomerMovie Fest, watch "Old Yeller" outside at Lincoln Park. The movie starts at about 8:30 p.m.

4) Union Square Swirl & Slice market
The Swirl & Slice specialty foods market, featuring local wine, cheese, bread, cured meats and more, is every Thursday in Union Square. It's from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

5) Weather and Red Sox
The Red Sox play the Twins tonight at 7:10 p.m. at Fenway. Today will be cloudy, then getting partly sunny. There's a slight chance of thunderstorms.
