Five Things: Hydrant Flushing, Infrared Mapping
Plus, free Shakespeare in Boston and music at The Armory.
1) Hydrant Flushing could cause discolored water
The Somerville Fire Department will be inspecting they city's fire hydrants from Aug. 6 to 18. In addition, the Department of Public Works is conducting flushing of fire hydrants throughout the summer and fall. This could cause water in your home to appear rusty, but it is safe to drink. If you see rusty water, run the faucet until the water runs clear. If your laundry gets stained, do not put the clothes in the dryer. Call 311 and the city will give you a bottle of rust remover.
2) Free Shakespeare in Boston
As part of Free Fun Fridays, people can get free admission to the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's performance of Coriolanus. The performance begins at 8 p.m. at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common. The show runs about 2 hours and 45 minutes, and parental discretion is advised.
3) Olivia Brownlee at The Armory
The actress and indie folk singer will be at The Center for Arts at the Armory at 7:30 p.m.
4) Infrared mapping with Parts and Crafts
From the listing: "Kids will be able to build cameras and kites that they will launch to create an infrared map of the city." It starts at 2 p.m. at the Somerville Community Growing Center.
