Five Things: Former Police Chief Joins Winter Hill Bank

Also, burlesque in Davis Square, Tufts is a local hotspot for Peace Corps volunteers, and a comedy festival in the suburbs of Somerville (a.k.a. Boston and Cambridge).

 

1) Former Somerville police chief joins Winter Hill Bank 
George McLean, chief of the Somerville Police Department from 2001 to 2005, has been named to the board of directors at Winter Hill Bank, according to an announcement from the bank. In addition to his career on the Somerville police force, McLean is a former president of the Somerville Kiwanis Club and a member of several veterans and civic organizations in the city. "We are proud to have George McLean join our board. He has a long and proud record of public service to Somerville that is consistent with the bank's commitment to being an active member of the community," said Sandra L. McGoldrick, president and CEO of the bank, in a statement.

2) Burlesque in Somerville
Boston Babydolls, named "best burlesque" by the Boston Phoenix, is opening its latest production, "Unlucky in Love," tonight at the Davis Square Theatre, 255 Elm St. More info here.

3) Tufts, a top Peace Corps school
Tufts University is ranked number 15 on the list of Peace Corps volunteer-producing universities, according to an announcement from Tufts. The university is ranked in the group of medium sized colleges and universities and currently has 31 undergraduate alumni serving overseas, the announcement says.

4) Comedy festival
The Magners Comedy Festival takes place this weekend at venues in Boston and Cambridge. So, if you're looking for an excuse to visit one of Somerville's suburbs, check it out.

5) Weather
Today will be rainy with a high around 53.
