Five Things: Flowers and Free Slurpees
Also, a young Somerville resident meets with the governor, and a pub quiz.
1) "Greens from the Garden, Blooms from the Store"
The Somerville Garden Club will host floral designer and Garden Club member Tom Sopko, who will lead a demonstration about creating inexpensive summer arrangements with foliage found in your garden and flowers easily bought at the store. He'll make three of these inexpensive arrangements using simple containers, and they'll all be suitable to be centerpieces on your table of buffet. The talk begins at 7 p.m. at 167 Holland St. near Davis Square.
2) Free Slurpees
Today is July 11—7/11—and to celebrate, 7-Eleven stores will be giving away free 7.11-ounce Slurpees from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you want one, head to one of their stores. Somerville has a 7-Eleven at 582 Broadway between Ball and Magoun squares.
3) Somerville resident at statewide Youth Council reunion
Kevin Ma, of Somerville, was one of 28 young people who met with Gov. Deval Patrick Tuesday for the first statewide Youth Council reunion, according to an announcement from the governor's office. Among other things, the Youth Council played a role in pushing forward anti-bullying legislation in Massachusetts.
4) Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz
Joshua Tree is hosting Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz, which, based to the listing, is sort of like a normal pub quiz that's had one too many espressos. And it's multimedia. Check it out at 8:30 p.m.
5) Weather and Red Sox
Today will be mostly sunny with highs around 85. The Red Sox are off tonight.
