Five Things: Eat Pizza for a Cause, Get the 'Scoop' About Somerville Schools

Plus, some news from Somerville State Sen. Patricia Jehlen.

 

1) Eat pizza at a Food For Free fundraiser at Flatbread
Head to Flatbread Company at Sacco's Bowl Haven after 5 p.m., order a flatbread, and the pizza company will donate money to Food For Free, a Cambridge-based organization that rescues fresh food and makes sure it's distributed to shelters and food programs in the area.

2) "Get the scoop on Somerville schools"
At this open meeting for parents and future parents, Paul Bockelman, chair of the Somerville School Committee, and a few parents will make a brief presentation, and then there will be time for questions, answers and comments. Plus, there will be some food and beverages. It's from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Thalia Tringo Real Estate office, 128 Willow Ave.

3) Sen. Jehlen on Citizens United
The Massachusetts Senate last week passed a resolution calling on the United States Congress to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling, which allows political spending by corporations, according to an announcement from Somerville State Sen. Patricia Jehlen. Jehlen supported the resolution and said, "The Citizens United ruling is dangerous to our democracy."

4) Sen. Jehlen on foreclosure bill
Jehlen also supported a bill approved by the Massachusetts legislature that establishes foreclosure protections for homeowners, according to an announcement from the senator's office.

5) Weather and Red Sox
The Red Sox play the Tigers tonight at Fenway at 7:10 p.m. Today will be mostly sunny with a high around 77.
