Firefighters Extract Woman Through Windshield, Accident Shuts Down Intersection
The intersection of McGrath Highway and Washington Street was shut down Friday morning when a car rolled onto it's side.
Firefighters extracted a woman through the windshield of a rolled over car Friday morning after an accident that temporarily shut down an intersection near Union Square.
The two-car accident happened shortly before 6:52 a.m. at the intersection of McGrath Highway and Washington Street, according to Somerville Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher.
That's a large, complex intersection, with a number of on- and off-ramps, where Washington Street crosses under the elevated McGrath Highway. Kelleher said the accident happened on the Union Square side of the intersection.
One car rolled onto its side, and firefighters removed the car's windshield to extract a female passenger, the fire chief said.
She was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
State and Somerville police shut down the whole intersection temporarily as a result of the accident, Kelleher said.
