Fire Department Investigates Suspicious Car Fire

The car was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The Somerville Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit is investigating a suspicious car fire that broke out on Avon Place in East Somerville Tuesday, according to an email from Deputy Fire Chief Charles Breen.

Firefighters responded to Avon Place at around 2:04 p.m. to find a car fully engulfed in flames, and the flames also damaged a shed at 133 Cross St., the email says.

It was the second fire firefighters responded to in two hours. Earlier Tuesday afternoon, fire crews put out an apartment fire in Winter Hill that was not considered suspicious.
