Elio LoRusso Announces Run for Alderman in Ward 1
LoRusso owns Somerville Ornamental Iron Works and says "many exciting things are happening in East Somerville."
Elio LoRusso, an East Somerville native who owns Somerville Ornamental Iron Works, said he is running for alderman in Ward 1.
In an announcement sent Monday, LoRusso unveiled his campaign website, eliolorusso.com.
The website says, "Elio is running to be your alderman, because our neighborhoods and our city are at a crossroads. Many exciting things are happening in East Somerville—from the Assembly Square development to the re-vamping of East Broadway—and Elio believes he has the relationships and experience to deliver solid leadership to Ward 1 during these pivotal times."
The website also has a "share your ideas" section.
Ward 1, which encompasses most of East Somerville, was represented for 17 years by William Roche, who stepped down in December, 2012, to spend more time with his family. (He has subsequently been hired as the city's personnel director.)
Maureen Bastardi, then Ward 1's representative on the Somerville School Committee, was appointed as Roche's replacement.
As election season gets closer, more candidates may announce runs for office soon. With a primary expected to take place sometime in September—the exact date isn't officially set at the moment—candidates will likely pull nomination papers in May and submit signatures at the end of June.
