East Asia Restaurant Closes, Will Become 'Fusion Test Kitchen'

A Somerville favorite closes, but a new restaurant taking its place looks promising.

East Asia Restaurant at the Powder House Square has closed, according to Boston Restaurant TalkDavis Square Livejournal and other blogs.

East Asia Restaurant, which served Chinese and Thai cuisine, was recently nominated on Somerville Patch as one of the best Asian restaurants in the city, and, as Boston Restaurant Talk points out, it was once featured on Boston's Hidden Restaurants.

A new restaurant will take its place, according to the above-mentioned posts.

It's called DooWee & Rice, and this is what the new restaurant's website says about it, in the words of the new owner:

My name is DooWee (duy) and I am a young chef with big dreams! … and as of July 2012 my dreams and ideas are all coming together in the form of a small fusion test kitchen I will be opening late August under the name DooWee & Rice in Somerville, Ma.

The website says the idea for the restaurant stemmed from DooWee & Rice Thirsty Thursday nights at Wonder Bar (in Allston).

The DooWee & Rice website includes some tasty-looking photos of what might be served there, and you can also check out the DooWee & Rice Facebook page.
