Collier Memorial Grows at MIT

Memorial for slain MIT officer has appeared at place on campus where he was shot.

A memorial is growing at the spot on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus where MIT Police Officer Sean Collier was shot last Thursday.

Darlene Ray, who works in MIT's biological engineering department, sent along a photo of the memorial Monday at around noon. In an e-mail to Patch, Ray said it has been a "very sad day" at MIT.

Boston Marathon bombings suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are also suspected in Collier's shooting. Tamerlan was killed after a shootout with police following Collier's shooting, while Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured after a day-long manhunt Friday.

A wake for Collier is being held Monday in Stoneham, with the funeral Tuesday. A public memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 24, at noon in the M.I.T. Athletic Complex, 270 Vassar St., Cambridge.
