Boston Militia One Win Away From Third Championship Appearance
The women's football team moves on after a passionate game that included a bench-clearing brawl.
The Boston Militia will play in the Women's Football Alliance National Conference game—the semi-finals—after beating the D.C. Divas 55-34 Saturday.
If the Militia win the National Conference game, which will be played against the Chicago Force on July 21, the Somerville-based team will move onto its third straight Women's Football Alliance championship game.
The Boston Militia are two-time national champions of the Women's Football Alliance, and they play home games at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.
The Militia move on in the playoffs after playing one of their closest and most emotional games of the season against the D.C. Diva.
According to the D.C. Diva's Facebook page, a bench-clearing brawl broke out late in the fourth quarter after a Diva's running back broke a leg in a pile-up and then the Militia picked off a pass.
The brawl brought out police officers, according to Militiacheerleader.com, a fan site.
Undefeated on the season, the Militia will play the Chicago Force, who are also undefeated, in Chicago.
According to Militiacheerleader, the winner of that came will play in the national championship against the Dallas Diamonds or the San Diego Surge, who play in the Women's Football Alliance's American Conference. Those two teams are also undefeated.
The championship game will be held Aug. 4 at Heinz Field in Pittsburg, home of the Pittsburg Steelers.
