Books, Buildings and Basketball

A list of five things to know today, including the weather.

 

1) Mystery Book Club
The Mystery Book Club meets tonight at 7 p.m. at the library's central branch. This month's mystery is "Witches' Bane," by Susan Wittig Albert, in which herb-shop owner China Bayles explores a brutal Halloween murder.

2) Healey School receives books
Got Books, Inc., from Wilmington, Mass., donated 1000 books to the Healey School, according to an email from Got Books. The books will help stock the Healey School's library, and at the end of the year, each of the school's 500 some-odd students will get a book to take home.

3) Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets tonight at 6 p.m. at Somerville City Hall. The board will discuss, among other things, plans for the Mystic Water Works site, on Mystic Valley Parkway in West Somerville. According to the meeting agenda, the Somerville Housing Authority's proposal for the site is to create 60 units of affordable housing for seniors and people with disabilities.

4) Girls basketball
The Somerville High School girls basketball team plays an away game at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham tonight at 7 p.m

5) Weather
Cold weather will continue today, with temperatures in the mid 20s.
