Best Spots to Watch the Super Bowl in Somerville

Check out the big game at these favorite spots suggested by readers.

The Super Bowl is almost here. If you’re looking for a place to watch the big game that has the biggest screens, a free buffet or a 64-oz beer served oh-so-elegantly in a giant rubber tube, Patch readers can guide you on your way. Check out their tips for the best places to watch the Super Bowl in “Greater” Somerville.

Olde Magoun’s Saloon

  • Why? Monica says, "Magoun's! Great beer selection, good vibe, plenty of huge TVs.” Coutney O’Keefe and Steve Mac give a thumbs up too. And John Alan Roderick adds, "The food is great there."
  • Screens: Six 9-foot projectors and two plasmas
  • Eats: Pre-game Chili Cook Off noon-3 p.m., with free samples. Otherwise no shortage of nachos, tenders and wings.
  • Beer: Eclectic craft beer list, 21 drafts and 56 in bottles
  • Where: 518 Medford St., Magoun Square | 617-776-2600

On the Hill Tavern

  • Why? Because reader Tim Donovan likes it and Tavern Bartender Stacy Cameron says it all comes down to this: “It’s just a really great sports bar.”
  • Screens: A whopping 12 flatscreens and a big screen projector
  • Eats: Free, loaded buffet at 6 p.m. Think wings n’ chili.
  • Beer: Seven decent drafts, 15 brews in bottles
  • Where: 499 Broadway, Winter Hill | 617-629-5302

    Precinct

    • Why: Because Mimi Graney of Union Square Main Streets says so, and who wouldn’t trust the woman behind the Fluff Fest?
    • Screens: Seven 42” flatscreens, one big screen projector
    • Eats: Free appetizers during half-time
    • Beer: 20 on draft, more than 50 in bottles
    • Where: 70 Union Square | 617-623-9211

    Michael’s Bar

    • Why: Because for a half-century it’s been the “bah” to go to around here.
    • Screens: Six flatscreens (small ones, but enough)
    • Eats: Bring your own--anything you want
    • Beer: Always iced and super cheap ($2.50 domestic, $3 imports)
    • Where: 97 Washington St. | 617-623-3364

    Tavern in the Square

    • Why: Because they have the "Miller Lite Super Tube," 64 oz. in a great big tube that you can guzzle from with pals ($15.99).
    • Screens: 18 flatscreen plasmas, two big screen projectors
    • Eats: Wings, wings and more wings (honey, honey hot, buffalo, and BBQ)
    • Beer: 18 on tap, more in bottles
    • Where: 1815 Mass. Ave, Porter Square, Cambridge | 617-354-7766

    Orleans

    • Why? Half-time giveaways and great apps.
    • Screens: Nine flatscreens
    • Eats: Half-time appetizer and drink specials
    • Beer: 22 brews on tap, 10 in bottles
    • Where: 65 Holland St., Davis Square | 617-591-2100

    Your Home

    • Why? Tiffany Rose Gilbert, says "At home, no where to park!”
    • Eats: Check out our resident food blogger Anna Berezina’s Super Bowl Party recipe for tortilla pizzas on the site later today.
