Benefit Gala for Mudflat, and Report on Somerville's Health

Plus, a Somerville resident helps the Boston Public Library's special collections, and a skating rink groundbreaking.

 

1) Well Being of Somerville 2011 Report
This morning, the Somerville Health Department, along with the Cambridge Health Alliance/Somerville Community Health Agenda and the Institute for Community Health, will release an in-depth report about the health of Somerville's residents at a celebratory event at The Center for Arts at the Armory. There will be light refreshments, interactive activities and information from community partners and resources. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

2) Mudflat Gala Benefit Auction
Mudflat Pottery Studio is holding a gala auction tonight, and a number of stunning pottery pieces will be on the auction block. The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. at 81 Broadway. Tickets are $100, and you can preview some of the artwork on auction at www.mudflat.org/auction.

3) Somerville resident named executive director of the Associates of the Boston Public Library
Somerville resident Louisa Stephens is the new executive director of the Associates of the Boston Public Library, according to a Boston Public Library press release. The Associates of the Boston Public Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated conserving the Boston Public Library's special collections, which include treasures such as John Adams's personal library, first edition folios by William Shakespeare and original scores by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, among other things.

4) Skating rink groundbreaking
Today at 11:30 p.m., the city will break ground on a new ice rink located next to the Veterans Memorial Rink on Somerville Ave.

5) Weather and Red Sox
The Sox start a three-game series against the Rays tonight in Tampa Bay. The game begins at 7:10 p.m. It will be foggy with highs approaching 80.
