Sometimes one award is not enough. Although American Legion Post #19 usually presents one award each to the police officer and firefighter of the year, at their annual Veterans Day dinner this year, the firefighter award was a three-way tie.

For their above-and-beyond heroic acts during a house fire at 111 Glenwood Rd. on Sunday, June 27, 2010, Firefighter Michael Powers, Firefighter Patrick Dorant and Firefighter Ryan Epps were each honored with the award.

This year's award for Police Officer of the Year was presented to Somerville Police Officer Dante DiFronzo for his actions taken during a call involving an emotionally disturbed female at 10 Sycamore St. on Friday, July 23, 2010. Officer DiFronzo has also been nominated for the Somerville Police Department's Medal of Honor, Life Saving Medal and Purple Heart Medal.
