A ZBA Meeting, a Toy Drive, and a Newborn Somervillian
Today's list of five things has seven items. Also on the list: An open mike night; Redbones is catering a State House event, and klezmer music at Tufts.
1) Open mike: jazz, blues, cabaret and cowboy music
It's an open mike night at The Center for Arts at the Armory. If you've ever dreamed of singing, tonight's the night. Sign up at 6:45 p.m. The singing starts at 7 p.m. The event is free, but donations are welcome.
2) Eastern Bank Toy Drive
Action for Boston Community Development, Inc., which runs an annual toy drive, anticipates it will need more than 10,000 toys this year, exceeding last year's requests. Eastern Bank is partnering with ABCD in the toy drive, and people can drop off toys at the Eastern Bank branch at 250 Elm St. in Davis Square. There are also drop-off locations at Eastern Banks in Cambridge, Boston and other neighboring communities. Visit www.bostonabcd.org or call (617) 348-6559 for more information about the toy drive.
3) Redbones at the State House
Redbones is catering an event at the Massachusetts State House today: The 15th annual winter celebration for HomeStart, Inc, a non-profit dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness in Greater Boston. The lunch is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Great Hall, and it will celebrate the organization's achievements over the past year.
4) Zoning Board of Appeals
The ZBA meets tonight at 6 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse Association. The board will discuss the case of a planned condo development near the George Dilboy VFW Post in Davis Square, among other things.
5) Klezmer music at Tufts
Tufts University's klezmer ensemble, the Jumbo Knish Factory, performs tonight. There will be music, dancing, some pre-Chanukha celebrations and perhaps some chocolate treats. The performance begins at 8 p.m. at Tufts University's Granoff Music Center.
6) Somerville welcomes a new resident
Please welcome Davis—a good Somerville name if there ever was one—to the city. At two days old (some say his birthday, Dec. 5, is even more auspicious than Dec. 4), Davis is one of Somerville's newest residents, and if it's true that coconuts don't fall far from the pine, Davis is bound to be wicked smart and fun.
7) Weather
Showers today, with highs in the upper 40s.
